Educating with Faith for Laila

I wanted to learn so I could teach my children what is right and guide them with knowledge. Islam tells us that seeking knowledge is a duty for every believer: now I understand why.”

When the literacy class began in her village, Laila was unsure. She had never been to school, and feared she was too old to learn. But her teacher reminded her that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.” Encouraged by this, she took her first step into the classroom.

At first, the letters blurred together. Then, with patience and prayer, they began to make sense. Laila learned to read Qur’anic verses, write her name, and count her earnings from sewing. Each lesson brought her closer to independence and to her faith.

Now, she reads to her children from storybooks and Qur’an alike, guiding them with wisdom and confidence. Around her, other women have joined the classes, eager to learn so they can teach their families and strengthen their communities.
