Combating the Poverty Trap with Amina

Last year the flood took away it all. This year, because of you, we have milk for breakfast, money for school, and a garden that grows fresh food. The cow, the shed upgrade, and your guidance gave us our home back. May God bless you”

Last year, the floods in Bangladesh swept away everything Amina owned. Her house, her savings, and her source of income: gone in a single storm. For months, she struggled to feed her children, surviving on borrowed rice and prayers for relief.

Then, through your generosity, Islamic Aid provided Amina with a dairy cow: not just an animal, but a lifeline. Through our Targeting the Ultra-Poor (TUP) Programme, she received a heifer, starter feed, a shed upgrade, veterinary care, and hands-on training in fodder growing, hygiene, and simple bookkeeping.

Within weeks, Amina was collecting litres of milk each day. The first litres go to breakfast for her children; the rest she sells in the market, turning milk into steady income. Manure from the cow now fertilises a small kitchen garden, cutting food costs and adding fresh vegetables to their meals.

With her savings group, Amina is setting aside money for school fees and emergencies. And with her cow now expecting a calf, she smiles knowing that tomorrow’s milk, and tomorrow’s hope, are already on the way.

Your support for families like Amina’s doesn’t just end hunger: it builds a livelihood. It creates a home that can withstand hardship and a future filled with dignity and independence.

Amina’s cow gave her more than milk. It gave her family their life back.
